Senior Airfreight Operator – Time Critical

Location: Frankfurt

Salary: €45,000–€65,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, 2:00pm–10:30pm, with occasional weekend shifts

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Our client is a leading global freight forwarding and logistics business with an extensive international network. Due to continued growth within their Time Critical operation, they are looking for an experienced Senior Airfreight Operator to join their Frankfurt team.

This is a fast-paced late-shift role focused on coordinating urgent and time-sensitive airfreight shipments, working closely with customers, airlines, carriers, customs brokers and international teams to ensure freight moves efficiently and without delay.

Strong English communication skills are essential. German is advantageous, but candidates who are currently learning German will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate time-critical airfreight shipments across international regions
• Manage shipments from booking through to final delivery
• Prepare and review airfreight, transport and customs documentation
• Coordinate air, road and courier solutions for urgent shipments
• Liaise with airlines, freight forwarders, road carriers, couriers and customs brokers
• Negotiate competitive rates and monitor carrier performance
• Prepare accurate freight quotations and support the commercial team
• Liaise with customs brokers to support smooth and timely clearance
• Audit freight invoices and resolve billing discrepancies
• Act as a key point of contact for customers, providing regular shipment updates
• Investigate operational issues and implement solutions to minimise delays
• Work closely with international teams to ensure seamless operational handovers
• Maintain high levels of customer service within agreed service levels
• Support process improvements and wider operational projects

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• Strong spoken and written English – essential
• German language skills advantageous, with candidates currently learning German also considered
• 3+ years' experience within airfreight, freight forwarding, logistics or a similar operational environment
• Practical experience working with airlines, freight forwarders, carriers or express couriers
• Experience handling time-critical, urgent or high-priority shipments would be advantageous
• Strong knowledge of airfreight documentation and operational processes
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using TMS/ERP systems
• A proactive and adaptable approach to changing operational requirements

The Opportunity

You will work closely with colleagues across different international regions to ensure continuous operational coverage for urgent customer shipments, whilst developing your experience within a specialist and fast-paced area of airfreight.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 2:00pm–10:30pm, with occasional weekend shifts depending on operational requirements.
